After eight years as a passionate blogger beginning in 2005, Reginald Chan is using what he has learned to help others.

“Back then, I was still in school and blogging was just a past time,” he says. “However as time passed by, I realized that I really enjoy blogging and shortly after that, it turned out to be a passion.”

Chan works as head of a department for an international hotel chain in Malaysia by day.

But his part time gig remains blogging. And he thinks of his website, ReginaldChan.net, as a portal providing online business resources for his readers.

Website Monetization Isn’t the Only Strategy

For this reason, Chan’s has never focused on monetizing the traffic to his site like many other bloggers. Instead, his aim has been educating his  readers and himself.

On his website, Chan shares tips and tricks regarding marketing, SEO and social media all for free. His blogging has also opened doors, allowing him to meet other influential thought leaders in the field. Those experiences often lead to even greater opportunities to learn from others about their success.

For example, Chan is quick to credit previous contributor of the week Adam Connell of Blogging Wizard for turning him on to the BizSugar community in the first place.

Recently, Chan launched a collection of paid services to help other aspiring entrepreneurs gain greater visibility, particularly with search engines like Google, and to help with many of the other basics needed to get a business operating online.

Chan describes discovering BizSugar as another learning experience.

“For me, BizSugar is my classroom,” he says. “I use it at least four times a week reading the articles there. BizSugar is a platform that is packed with quality resources and all the feedback received from the BizSugar community [gave] me a better understanding [of] my targeted audience.”

He says he appreciates the number of knowledgeable community members and community he finds.
