Cecil Wampler @CecilWampler Studies Workplace Psychology

You may have sometimes felt your boss, co-workers or employees needed a therapist. But did you know there is a psychology of the workplace itself?

Cecil Wampler BizSugar

Cecil Wampler is a Master’s level practitioner of industrial and organizational psychology.

That’s a field that looks at a variety of workplace issues and how they can affect things like organizational development and productivity.

“People management is a complicated process,” Wampler says. “Dealing with employee behaviors, motivations and attitudes can be a daunting task and when it goes wrong, it’s important to get on the right track.”

Wampler launched his consulting practice just over four months ago and maintains a website called simply People Management Consulting where he regularly shares insights about the psychology of the workplace.

“I have always been interested in people in the workplace,” he says. “I most enjoy studying the skills and processes used to perform the work itself, how employees respond to their management team and each other and also how policies and procedures of the organization influence performance. People Management Consulting follows the motto of ‘Better People. Better Business.'”

Sharing Some Insights

On Wampler’s website you can read his observations on topics like the “Five Signs Your Employees are Ready to Fire You.” Another recent post dealt with “Email Habits You Need to Delete” (mainly about the kinds of emails you shouldn’t be sending employees or co-workers in the workplace.)

And don’t miss his post on “MicroMessaging” about the many subtle messages we (perhaps even unconsciously) send employees and co-workers.

“The blog section of my site is really a great opportunity to better show what I/O psychology is all about and share my thoughts on management and the workplace,” he explains. “I really love hearing that someone printed my work and put it up in their break room or it helped them make improvements to their management style.”

Helping Businesses Solve Management Problems

Wampler offers management consulting and executive coaching services for clients.

“My goal is to guide managers and businesses in overcoming their people-related issues,” he says.

These issues can include employee-related issues like selection, placement, training and development. But Wampler says he also offers individualized coaching for decision makers.

He says he’s found the BizSugar community to be both a great place to share business information and ideas and a great place to learn from others.

“As my content built over time, I read an article explaining how I should submit some of my content to sites to get more exposure,” he explains. “Over time, I found my material was getting the best response from the BizSugar community. I eventually started reading the content of other members and found it was not only a great place to share my material, but to also read fresh material from intelligent, business-minded people.”

We’re glad to hear it, Cecil.:)
