FREE Goal Setting Templates
Have you seen the goal setting templates on the Tools Page of the main BizSugar site? These templates are absolutely free to use:
- Sales Goals Template
- Staff Goals Template
- Tech Goals Template
Simply choose the template you’d like to try out first. Fill in the fields and download the nicely formatted, single-page PDF containing all your goals. You could set them monthly, or quarterly.
Now is the perfect time to evaluate how your year is going. And if you haven’t set goals, yet — no problem. Set some now.
Why Set Goals?
You have probably heard this famous quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin:
“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”
How can you know whether your life or business is on track if you haven’t set any goals? The goal is the first step towards a plan to achieve that goal. You need both plus a way to measure your results.

How to Use the BizSugar Goal Setting Templates
In the BizSugar Goal Templates, there are five steps:
- Identify one of your top challenges. This is the problem you will solve by setting a goal. Example: “Sales take too long to close leading to cash flow issues”.
- Using the SMART system, you will define your goals. SMART stands for: specific, measurable, achievable, results-oriented and time bound. This is a specific action to take Example: “Hire a new sales rep” or “Develop a new product offering with a shorter sales cycle”.
- Define what results you want to get. Example: “Double the number of closed sales” or “Achieve a recurring revenue stream of at least $5,000 per month”.
- Establish how your results will be measured. Example: “By the number of closed sales” or “By the sales volume coming from the new offering”.
- Set a deadline for achieving this goal. This would typically be a number of months.
