The story of how Dhiraj Das brought Linktons.com to the Web is a reminder of how important passion becomes when starting a new business. But it is also a reminder of the importance of striking a balance and pacing yourself when starting out.
“Though I am a full-time corporate employee, my real passion is to create websites and blogging,” Das explains.
“Through my blog Linktons.com I have been trying to discuss and present what I have learnt in the last few years during my online adventures,” he adds.
Those “online adventures” began in 2009 when a conversation with a friend got him thinking about building websites as a small business venture.
From that moment on, Das was consumed with the idea, a bit too consumed as it turned out.
“Being passionate about your work is good, but being mad about it definitely not a good idea,” Das cautions.
While most online entrepreneurs would focus on just one niche, Das found himself focusing on an ever increasing number of sites.
Like many new Web entrepreneurs, Das found himself intrigued with every new business model and every new Website he explored. But instead of taking little bits he liked from many different sites or narrowing his focus to the niche or business model he liked best, Das became focused on too many things at once.
Learn to Focus on a Niche
Beginning many Websites at once while trying to mimic all the ventures he enjoyed most had Das working around the clock, balancing his day job with online endeavors.
Even a leave from work taken to deal with the stress and toll his new online efforts were taking did not teach Das his lesson.
Instead, he took the time off from work to put in 20 hour days on his online ventures.
Finally, a trip to the hospital and a stern warning from a doctor to stay away from his laptop for at least 48 hours did the trick.
Today, Das focuses happily on growing just one Website endeavor.
Through Linktons we try to publish useful information about social media, Web technology, blogging and SEO,” he explains.
Das say he also enjoys participating on the BizSugar community, not only as a way of sharing his own content, but also because of the introduction it gives him to other bloggers and their work.
“I spend a lot of my time on BizSugar on a daily basis and trust me, I get the best return on my investment,” Das adds.
