Woo-hoo Jackie Purnell: BizSugar “Contributor of Week”

We’re VERY excited to welcome our BizSugar “Contributor of the Week” Jackie Purnell and hope you are too.

Jackie’s had experience with a variety of startup businesses ranging from craft products, children’s clothing manufacture, and a bunch of business services including administration, bookkeeping, marketing.

But it wasn’t until November 2008 while attending a seminar that it dawned on her that putting all this business knowledge to work helping others might be her true calling.

“Finally, I realized what I needed to do was to focus on where my heart lay. Helping people with their business challenges,” said Purnell.

But the path wasn’t easy.

“The first 12 months were a pretty steep learning curve, dipping my toe and trying different things,” Purnell said. “I failed miserably at some stuff, did pretty good with others. There’s been wasted time, money and tears along the way, but I learned a LOT from the experience.”

Today, Jackie runs Respectfully Disobedient, the online presence for her small business consulting and coaching business and an appropriate description of the unique brand she brings to the market.

Purnell felt she could deliver no nonsense business advice in an honest and direct manner in a way she believes is sorely lacking in the online world.

Along the way, Purnell also discovered and began using BizSugar.

“I happened to notice the BizSugar vote button while reading one of my favorite blogs, and obviously had to check it out to see what it was all about,” Purnell said.

She obviously liked what she saw.

“What I discovered was a great community of people sharing content that was really helpful,” Purnell said. “I knew instinctively that I should become part of the BizSugar community and joined that day. The rest as they say is history. I’ve made some great connections on BizSugar and really look forward to checking in and reading & clicking that vote button. I can tell you, my feed reader is becoming very fat from all the new additions lol.”

    • Hi Vedran,

Thanks for your comments. It’s very true that its not only rewarding, and inspiring, but I love the challenge too.

They say everyone you meet in life can teach you something, and I’d definately agree with that.

  • Congratulations Jackie! It’s wonderful to hear more about you. The small biz community is lucky to have someone like you out there to help. Thanks!

If not for communities like BizSugar, I’m sure many of them would go unnoticed.

  • Congratulations, Jackie. I can totally relate to wanting to help small business in a direct, no nonsense fashion. There is a great feeling of satisfaction from watching your clients achieve their goals and knowing that you contributed to that.

    • Hi Ronika

Totally agree. There’s a whole range of emotions, when you help someone to build there business. There’s nothing better than the moment when you see that the switch has been flipped and they get that shift thats needed to help them reach the next level. Its brilliant!

Thanks for your comments Ronika, most appreciated.

Had a lovely break in Melbourne. Although I wouldn’t really call it restful, when you take a daughter hell bent on clearing the stores of their stock! πŸ™‚ (kidding)

Being named contributor of the week was a lovely surprise I must say.

BizSugar has been great for me personally…just think if not for this community I would not have met wonderful people like yourself.
