Elli St. George Godfrey: Contributor of the Week

You can take the CEO out of the corporation, but you can’t take the leadership out of the CEO.

At least, that is the opinion of our latest BizSugar Contributor of the Week, Elli St. George Godfrey. Godfrey provides coaching to small business owners in order to help them “inhabit the CEO Mindset.”

For many, says Godfrey, it is a mindset they have never really left behind.

“Many of my clients left corporate positions because they wanted more control, choice and meaning to their work and their lives,” says Godfrey. “This resonates with me deeply as it is my belief that it is important to find something that thrills, challenges, provokes and nurtures us to be the best person we can be.”

She talks about her mindset approach and what it offers the small business owner whether they have a background in corporate leadership or have never worked for anyone but themselves.

“This mindset is crucial to a thriving small business because it combines the global responsibilities of a business leader and good self-management leading to a healthy bottom line,” she explains.

Godfrey has combined experience working with small business owners, small to medium-sized business executives, her own set of metrics and a background in psychology to create her own unique 3 Keys coaching process.

“My process helps clients move from being excited about a potential growth phase to being able to guide the growth without feeling like they bit off more than they could chew,” Godfrey continues. “By combining coaching and training, we tackle strategic thinking, organizational change and managing stress and feelings of overwhelm that often plague business leaders.”

Godfrey’s solution, shared through her blog Ability Success Growth and in one on one sessions with clients online, meets these challenges head on.

“This results in clients feeling confident in developing strategies to be more effective leaders, focus their planning, select and develop talent, increase revenues and overcome the fears and obstacles that interfere with building thriving businesses,” Godfrey adds.

When she launched her own business six years ago, Godfrey was looking for new challenges that would allow her to work more intensely with business leaders.

“Coaching seemed a natural progression as it combined my love of helping others maximize who they are with…curiosity about business,” she said.

Meanwhile, basing her business online has allowed her to work virtually, not only with business owners across the U.S., but in Canada, Ireland and Sweden too.

“Blogging is a natural extension of my coaching as I get to talk a little more about leadership, management and the other topics that come up for my clients,” says Godfrey, who considers her blog an outgrowth of her business coaching efforts. “I found it allowed me to explore topics and add my own perspective to them as well as give people an opportunity to ‘meet’ me.”

Godfrey also shares her message regularly on BizSugar where she has discovered she can gain greater exposure for her small business coaching content.

“I was first introduced to BizSugar through Bloggertone where I am an contributing blogger,” Godfrey explains. “One of the things that attracts me most to BizSugar is that I am able to share my posts specifically with small business owners. BizSugar has become one of my favorite tools for sharing my posts with like-minded entrepreneurial business owners.”
