Hurray for Jenny How, our BizSugar “Contributor of the Week.”
If you haven’t stopped by her cool and informative blog JennyHow.com, we hope you’ll do it soon.
Plenty of our members have compelling stories about how and why they started their small businesses, but perhaps none as compelling as Jenny’s.
Jenny, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was a senior IT consultant in a leading IT company until brain surgery in 2003 left her with permanent facial paralysis after which, she says, her life began a downward spiral.
With her self-esteem at an all-time low, Jenny quit her job and spent much of her time at home online, pondering her next move until an online chat with a friend in the U.S. changed the path of her life forever.
That friend introduced Jenny to the idea of Ebay as an option for launching a home-based business and before long, Jenny was fully immersed in a new ventured that, for her, included many of the standard aspects of traditional retail including inventories, stocks management, negotiation with suppliers and shipment.
“I was brutally burnt out at the end of the day,” she says.
Along the way, she launched her blog as a way to offer others guidance in the world of online business and sometimes as a means of self-expression to vent some of her frustrations. In 2008 and 2009, Jenny’s blog was featured in the Independent Guide to Ebay, a UK-based publication targeted at the online auction market.
She has since moved on to the more relaxed niche of affiliate marketing in her main business but continues to believe the Internet holds opportunities for wide variety of small business people and entrepreneurs and has dedicated her blog to sharing insight on the marketplace.
“I can’t remember how I bumped into BizSugar,” Jenny says. “As a blogger, I am always looking out for websites to submit my blog post. In fact, most of the directories out there are more suitable for entertainment news. People there do not really bother about serious stuff like building online business or entrepreneurship articles.”
“I found that in bizsugar, everybody’s content has something to relate to,” Jenny adds. “It is a hub for people of the same interest and background to interact with one another. Little did I know that there are so many good blogs and websites offering great content on small businesses until I found Bizsugar.”
