What is your number one small business goal in 2011? I posed this question yesterday on both our Facebook and Twitter pages.
You can see the responses so far on our Facebook fan page. I’m hoping there will be more forthcoming.
But why did I post the question and what are we hoping to get from all of this? And what does the question about our members’ future goals have to do with small business news and small business social media, the essence of what we’re about here at BizSugar.com?
We’re hoping to hear from you
Well, basically we’re trying to find out what you think. And after all that’s social, isn’t it? You see, BizSugar.com is more than just a Website where you can find the latest small business news, information and tips. It’s a community of like-minded small business people and entrepreneurs hoping to learn and help each other succeed and that means communication.
See, we’re hoping that if we get some sharing going on about what our members’ goals are in the future, it may give other members ideas about what kind of information they can share to be more helpful here at BizSugar.com.
And that makes it a better site and a better experience for everyone, right? 🙂
Folks with questions get more answers they are looking for from a community full of experts in all different areas of small business whether it be marketing, accounting, legal, finance, whatever.
Contributors get an even clearer idea of what exactly regular visitors to our small business community are looking for giving them in turn a better idea of the kinds of submissions that will interest the most people and get the biggest response.
So here’s how it will work
OK. To make this work, we will need your help. When you see this post, either here on our blog, on the BizSugar community or on Twitter, Facebook or our LinkedIn group, please retweet, share or otherwise spread the post to everyone you know. If they own a small business, great. If they don’t, maybe they know someone who owns a small business and has ideas they’d like to share.
If they’re already a member of BizSugar, that’s great but not necessary. We’d love to grow our small business community, so if you tell our contributors what you’re looking for, we’ll stand a much better chance of seeing more of those kinds of links in the future.
Then leave a comment below or drop us an e-mail telling us a bit more about your business, whether you’re a BizSugar member and the kinds of contributions you’d like to see on the site.
We’ll give this a few weeks and see how much our list of comments and e-mails grows. Then we’ll publish another post especially for our membership and anyone thinking about becoming a contributing member here on the BizSugar blog, sharing some of your thoughts. (We’ll do more than one post depending upon the results, so give us your best effort.)
That’s it!
Hopefully, your responses will guide our contributors in the coming year and let them know more about what’s on the minds of BizSugar members and the small business community at large. This will improve the quality of the site and the quality of the social networking on BizSugar making it an even better resource for the small business community online.
So tell us, what is your number one small business goal in 2011? We’d really like to know! 🙂

I work for Symantec and our customers are telling us that protecting information is one of their main priorities for 2011. That’s also what we found when we surveyed more than 1500 SMBs in our 2010 SMB Information Protection Survey. Three quarters of SMBs surveyed were somewhat/extremely concerned about the loss of crucial business information. SMBs are now making protecting their information their highest IT priority, as opposed to 15 months ago when a high percentage had failed to enact even the most basic safeguards.
Thanks Gail and Blake. And to everyone else, keep ’em coming!
Hi Shawn, I feel that all small businesses can benefit from better tools to monitor their brand on social media and the web. Currently I’m using several tools like Google Alerts (enhanced with YoLink), Social Mention, Ice Rocket, BackType and more but none of them gives me a complete picture. We could all make better use of our time if we had a reliable tool that was comprehensive and affordable.
Thanks for having this discussion! I’m really enjoying the BizSugar community.
My number one goal is to implement the things that I have learned in the “Certified Networker” course by the Referral Institute in Gothenburg, Sweden.
My number #1 goal this year is to take my business to the next level.

Thank you Shawn for allowing me to post a response on your wonderful site!
Our number one goal is to raise $60K for charitable organizations through WebsitesGiveBack. By acheiving this goal, we will not only be able to give a substantial amount of money to charities that are in need and struggling, this will also mean that we’ll be helping 500 or so small business get on the web and more exposure for their business and also help us as small business sustain and hopefully recover from our own economic hardships. Everyone wins!
Much appreciation & kindness, Elena
