Interesting that this was written in 2012, and in 2019 Pinterest is still going strong.

Yes. Pinterest can drive enormous traffic for some bloggers, particularly some mom bloggers I know who get 50-60k views a month from Pinterest. But they create custom images (taller) for Pinterest, use paid scheduling tools, and focus on it more than the average site owner does.
