At age 16, Kimberly Turner was on her way to becoming a statistic. An unmarried teenage mom with few prospects, she scraped by with little income but somehow managed to finish college.
She graduated college with a nursing degree, but after marrying her husband, a Marine, the family began to move around frequently, making it harder for Turner, with a growing brood that would eventually include four children, to work outside the home.
“As much as I adore my children and feel so fortunate to stay home, I still had an unfulfilled need to achieve in the business world,” she said. She believes other stay-at-home moms feel the same.
Still itching to find a way to make her mark, Turner discovered marketing and the Internet and everything clicked. See her post that reached the front page of BizSugar recently entitled “Don’t Be Afraid to Share Your Secrets.”
“After a quick learning curve, I had established a blog, an online business presentation, a Facebook page, and every other social media outlet to market and grow my business,” she recalls.
Today, Turner blogs at KimberlyTurnerOnline.com were she shares business and blogging tips and personal development for other stay-at-home moms, trying to encourage other mompreneurs just like her to fulfill their dreams.
She also offers a free training program helping work-from-home moms learn the art of vlogging as a tool for marketing online.
Turner says finding the BizSugar community has been another important milestone in her career.
“Having Bizsugar as a resource to learn from other successful business owners, as well as give back to their readers, has been one of my favorite discoveries!” she says. “Bizsugar has endless resources to add to my knowledge base. What I’ve learned from BizSugar has opened up a new line of traffic to my site, and given me the opportunity to connect with other people just like me! It’s a win-win situation! I’m a life long learner always searching for new information, techniques, and strategies.”
